the teacher will give us this advice in week 1 and suddenly change in week 2, and blame us for following her instructions. she constantly forgets what she said herself and thinks we are making stuff up. the grade she gives are also low. dont take it unless u want to suffer for a sem. all instructions are unclear. the class is confused. she is also confused. everyone is confused.

I think the notes are pretty clear compared to other lecturer, also at the end of the semester it has a fully summarized notes for us in latex, and it is pretty useful no matter for revision or in exams, I appreciate the summarization of the whole course, which help me a lot in studying through the whole course and improve my understanding. However, I think his gradings are not very reasonable, since this course is optimization methods, it requires us to do pretty many calculation in the exams, and when I do wrong in part a) and get wrong answer, I just simply get 0 marks afterwards, not even those parts that is not related to part a) answer. Wrong is wrong, I know i shouldn't blame him for this, but it is pretty frustrating and this is penalizing student who actually knows the steps of doing the whole question, just making some careless mistake at the start, especially the algorithm taught in class won't be hand calculated in real situation, penalizing student by purely calculation mistake is not reasonable imo. Overall, this is still a good course just remember to check twice in exams and not to make any mistake early.

I actually took this course in 2020/2021 sem1 and I have graduated several years from polyu. Now that i happen to find this course review platform, I still want to say f**k u to Cao because he is the first one who makes me feel disgusted with courses in comp and polyu. I am a minor student from another engineering department, and it is my genuine curiosity for computing that drives me to choose the course. However, he is really disappointed for teaching when he cares only about the several top students and scare us not motivating us to finish homeworks/tests. Most unforgettably, when I have difficulties in taking final exams (about 7 exams in one sememster) because of the time clash between my major and minor courses (the time schedule/approach for exams is acutally discussable at the period of COVID), he even wrote in email don't find him again and find others because this is not his responsibility. From my current point of view, I should directly turn to dept general office for help regarding exams. But i still don't think this is the correct attitude a qualified teacher/lecturer/professor should take for an average student who really needs help. I think Cao may not be fortunate in his life outside the class, so please don't blame too much on the poor man when you get bad grades/experience in COMP2011... LOL.

Combine statistics and game theory in just one course. However, either one of the elements is worth an independent course if you are really interested. The learning experience is like listening and copying the notes all the time without too much time for thinking. The tests are more difficult than the homeworks, though the lecture will save your grades intentionally.

Lecturer was really nice and supporting for career development. No maths or codes in the finals. Only have to make a project which is quite heavy.

This class has a small scope, almost all content are variations of the first few chapters. So if you know the first few chapters by heart, the other questions are not too different from the first one.

This killer is well-known in COMP. The test has no humanity. When he want to end the break, he will fking blow the mic, which create a sudden loud noise, very extremely disturbing. Just like his Surname CAO.

First of all, 5 stars in Contents is hard. I think that does not make sence. This Course is just a piece of shit. The content is hard and changing EVERY year! Congretulations, this course is gone. You will learn Calculus and Linear Algebra from 0 in just FOUR Lectures! It's like a mission that COMP have to arrange some Math subject, and force you to do self-learn. What's next? R language. There is no connection between these three thing. At least this course have never tought.

Worst lecturer ever. Reading out slides all the time with a strong accent that can barely be understood. Slides are poorly organised. Heavy workload. Lab and assignment are not related to what has been taught in lectures. Everything is "do a self-study" - then what the hxll is the lecturer for?

I really don't understand why do we need to have compulsory Chinese course in university even we are engineer student and come from mainland. The content is boring, it is just like what I learned in my senior high school. My teacher's temper is good, but I don't want have comments on her teaching. Guess what, during 1h class, she can spend 40min in talking about her life and some meaningless information. It is just like a program that the main function is in the interrupt function. When you want to learn, she is taking about useless information, when you zone out, she is teaching knowledge. Hey, madam, plz give me the points! For the grade, you can't get A rank since my teacher says the number of A rank(>=A-) is in the single digits for all students who take this course [what can I say? >:( ] Additionally, your works will undergo multiple layers of censorship if you teacher give you A rank. The course requirements are including but not limited to writing a prose, making a ppt to analyzing prose, fixing sentence grammar's mistakes. No attendance but it will affect your final grade slightly. In summary, trash.

Prof.Cao is so abstract for changing demands at will just before ddl, dinner quiz at weekend, lacking of sense of boundary(peeping at other's screen) that he deserves five star good comments paid in ten installments

grade一般 但workload實在太大

冇咩點溫過，考試可以揀題目做個陣做咗2條sq +lq同1條計數題(呢科出題有trend同一定題型我估中兩題直接將背過嘅嘢寫落去)，project算簡單用心做就高分

理科人(Physics)容易掌握考試，但Project長文會吃力 物理知識太繁雜，對文科人極不友善，但Project可與教學内容無關

英文教儒道墨法 dse有讀範文+識英文就贏哂

Didnt attend the first lecture, however it have a quiz every lecture starting from week 1, this is an elective subject and still having quiz on week 1.

Review tutorial materials and get A+.

the quiz was very difficult, heavy workload and vague scoring criteria.

New course 1 group present (30 mins+ Q&A), CRCW essay, open-book exam, parti Need to take attendance, present and essay topics quite easy

CAD is the most difficult part of the course Programming is easy, recommend to get a highest score (>80%) in this area

Raymond is nice, just the course is a bit copy and paste, content is good.

Not a difficult course. Work little hard and you'll do very well. The course content only covers very superficial linear algebra and ordinary differential equations.

This course uses the relative grading, 5% is 2 subgrade. For ppl who is going to choose this course, remember to chase for every marks you can get.

1 mid-term (close-book 20MC), 1 EREW essay (everyone has the same topic, can refer to sources), 1 exam (3 hours) The content of the course is difficult but the exam became open-book last semester.

pretty eh. didn't attend any of the lectures, just memorized the book and the lectures. if you're good at memorization this is a good class

amazing class. teacher is so chill, replies to emails at like 2 am. just make a few friends and alternate attendance. quizzes are open book, just Ctrl+F. essay is a bit hard, but sylvia gives good feedback. she's my GOAT
