Don't choose please

COMP2411 asks for too much and grades too little!!! In the scope of ONE COURSE, we are asked to learn 3 new languages of database querying (RA, RC, SQL), 2 forms of database modelling (ER, R diagram), physical data structuring (e.g. hard drive sectors), data organisation, data maintenance, concurrent processing, hashing, query optimisation, B+ trees... the list goes on, yet barely ANY of these topics show up on the final exam. SQL + RA are covered in maybe 1-2 lectures, yet makes up more than 30% (!!!!) of the final grade. Topics such as data organisation, concurrency, hashing + query optimisation (the difficult stuff) is worth maybe 10% overall. Make it make sense! And on top of this, the group project is AWFUL. Simply AWFUL!! We are asked to create a school management database with a functional interface, yet not ONCE in the course is it mentioned how to create a database, host it, or let alone how to create an interface. Why must we independently learn front-end code for a DATABASE course???? Don't get me started on Guozhu Dong's attitude, either. He tells students not to inquire about discrepancies in assignment/quiz grading, is very rude to students who are not focused in lectures, and is overall bad at explaining/demonstrating course content. He just sits at the front of the class and mumbles on his chair for 3 hours. Someone also mentioned that the slides were stolen? If you create a new slide on the PPTs given, the footers still include a graphic from the University of Queensland, and all the youtube videos included in the slides are made by the University of Queensland. Hurray plagiarism! My biggest advice to anyone taking this course is to ensure they understand how to do SQL/RA/RC more than anything else. Go beyond the scope of the lectures for these because you will definitely be tested beyond the scope of the lectures. Good luck.
