Stochastic Process is a STRANGE subject since it only has two extremes, one is really simple (one only need to be familiar with middle school math, if you participated middle school/primary school math competition, then it will be peculiarly easy for you), and another one is hard as hell, which is measure theory based. And this course aims to provide a basic training in stochastic model (I don't really think it is a formal stochastic process course), and how to use Markov Chain, Poisson Process to model some phenomena in real life, therefore based on this purpose, the choice textbook from Ross, Sheldon M., intro to probability models, is particularly reasonable. The original note, that used by Dr. LI Ting, came from (personally thinking) Prof. Wong Kin-yau, who had solid training in statistics, then it reflects well in every courses that he taught, ergo, it may make some student feel "difficult" if the instructor don't have the similar teaching ability as Prof. Wong, (I didn't imply any thing here). However, Dr. Jiang made a perfect balance, he intentionally deleted (omitted) some parts that has no impact in understanding the core concepts, thoughts of this subjects, which makes this "difficult" course easier and also clear. Besides that, he tried to provide some real life examples, and also benefits from his interesting teaching style, one definitely will learn a lot. Lastly, this course's design is not really appropriate, but this is also not a fault of Dr. Jiang or Prof. Wong, since there is no middle stage of stochastic process, and this level should be acceptable for most of students in PolyU.
